- October to March is the most reliable. The monsoon from June to September is spectacular and green but the waterfalls and hill roads can be difficult.

- Approx. 390 km from Kottayam, around 8–9 hours by road. Often combined with Mysore, which is about 120 km away.
About Coorg
Coorg — Kodagu — is India's coffee district, a stretch of the Western Ghats in Karnataka planted with coffee, pepper and cardamom. It is greener and less built-up than Ooty, and the appeal is largely the landscape: plantation stays, waterfalls, and the Namdroling monastery at Bylakuppe, which is one of the largest Tibetan settlements in the country. Madikeri is the main town and most itineraries base there or on an estate outside it.

Coorg or Ooty — which suits our group better?
Ooty is a town with attractions in it: gardens, a lake, a railway, plenty to fill an itinerary, and crowds in season. Coorg is a landscape — plantations, waterfalls, estate stays — with less structured sightseeing and more quiet. Families and school groups usually get more out of Ooty; couples and corporate groups more often prefer Coorg.
Is Coorg worth visiting in the monsoon?
It is at its most beautiful then, and at its cheapest, but it is a trade-off. Roads through the hills can be difficult, leeches are common on plantation walks, and viewpoints are often closed in. Groups who mainly want the greenery are usually happy; groups with a fixed sightseeing list are usually not.
