About Chikkamagaluru
Chikkamagaluru is the quieter alternative to Coorg — the same Western Ghats coffee country, with less traffic and better trekking. Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka at 1,930 m, is here, along with the Baba Budangiri range where coffee is said to have first been planted in India in the 17th century. It suits groups who actually want to walk rather than be driven between viewpoints.

How is Chikkamagaluru different from Coorg?
Both are Western Ghats coffee country and the landscape is similar. Chikkamagaluru gets noticeably fewer visitors, has better trekking — Mullayanagiri is the highest point in Karnataka — and less developed tourist infrastructure. Coorg has more organised attractions and more estate stays to choose from.
Can Chikkamagaluru be combined with the Hoysala temples?
Yes, and it usually is. Belur and Halebidu are about 60 km away, so a single trip covers both the hills and the Hoysala temple architecture. It is one of the more satisfying short itineraries in Karnataka for that reason.
